Our new website is currently under development

HISTORY

1.19.1_1.19.1.jpg

Established in 1946 by brothers Andy, Ned, and John Lynch, the Lochee Boys and Girls Club has been a cornerstone of the Lochee community in Dundee.

Initially founded to provide local youth with access to activities such as football, gymnastics, and boxing, the club has continually adapted to meet the evolving needs of its members. Over the years, it has relocated several times within

Lochee, always maintaining its presence in the heart of the community.

Today, the club operates from its premises on Wellbank Lane, offering a safe and inclusive environment for young people to in sports and activities.

As a registered charity (SC016531), the Lochee Boys and Girls Club is dedicated to promoting the mental, spiritual, physical, and social well-being of its members. The club offers a range of boxing classes tailored to different age

groups and skill levels, including sessions for registered boxers, junior boxing for children aged 6-13, and ladies’ boxing classes.

These programs aim to install discipline, purpose, and direction, contributing positively to both physical and mental health. The club’s commitment to inclusivity ensures that all community members have the opportunity to participate and benefit from.

NEW EXTENSION

The club has plans to invest £480,000 into the Lochee community, by expanding its facilities to better serve the community’s growing needs. Collaborating with local stakeholders, plans are underway to enhance gym and training areas and create additional community spaces.

Our project will create positive change for individuals and the wider community by encouraging youth engagement in healthy lifestyles, teamwork, and discipline through sport. It will promote social cohesion by bringing together diverse groups to foster understanding, cooperation, and inclusion.

A key focus will be on physical and mental wellbeing, providing safe spaces for exercise that contribute to both physical fitness and mental health improvements.

The expansion will generate wider social benefits, this includes new opportunities for volunteer and employment roles, creating avenues for coaching certifications, mentoring positions, and careers in sports and community development. Sustained benefits for the community will be achieved by reducing social isolation, enhancing local engagement, and improving overall health metrics.

HEART OF LOCHEE

"Heart of Lochee" is a short documentary directed by Dundee-born filmmaker Scotty Dee and co-produced by local businessman Mike Garty. Funded with the goal of supporting the club’s fundraising efforts, the film also serves as a heartfelt tribute to the incredible community at the heart of Lochee.

The documentary beautifully captures the club’s generational impact, highlighting the dedication of its coaches, volunteers, and the transformative role it plays in the lives of its members.

Premiering to a sold-out crowd at Dundee Contemporary Arts in late 2024, the screening brought together club members, coaches, committee members, and their families to celebrate the community’s story on the big screen.

Beyond its initial success, "Heart of Lochee" has played a vital role in the club’s extension project, serving as a compelling tool to communicate the club’s vision to potential funders. The film underscores the importance of the extension and the positive changes it will bring to the community.
